How do you guys feel about original characters in fan fiction??

I don't see an issue with it personally, Fan Fiction is kind of an extension of that universe, it's fun to see what kind of characters people come up with! I especially like, for example, when their character is kind of a background character to the main action, which uses canon characters.

Most fanfic involves Canon characters which is neat, and I love it.

(Also I hope this is the right board? If not feel free to move it)

Eh, I'm more so-so on it. If the fan-fiction revolves around the main characters and episodes already aired, I wouldn't really appreciate it. Example, adding an OC into "Political Power" and making it to where the character was there in every scene of the episode. It doesn't make sense to the show itself, so unless they do this to every episode, I probably wouldn't read it right away.
Now, adding in an OC as a filler and/or background character, that's perfectly fine by me. Let's say someone had a fan-fiction revolving around Pearl's creation and the other Pearls being assigned to someone. Having an OC be one of the new Pearls or the one assigning 'masters' is unique and fun to read. It doesn't seem completly unrealistic to the show.

I would have to agree with Angora OCs are sometimes necessary to create like in her example. But I find it a little annoying when an OC is the star of the fan fiction. I wanted to read Steven Universe fan fiction to read others' interpretations of the characters and exploration of the world
